Online Survey Results

Thanks to all of you who took time to provide us feedback through completion of the on-line ETA survey. Here are some of the results from the 2006-2007 ETA Survey

 

Topics for future meetings from highest to lowest interest:

 

1. Assessing students’ technological literacy levels (highest interest)

2. Assessing the correlation between technology integration and student achievement

3. The Missouri 2007-2011 Education Technology Strategic Plan (still in draft)

4. 4th Cycle MSIP changes impacting integration of technology

5. Specific hardware/software solutions (lowest interest)

 

Our schedule of meeting dates and topics for the year are as follows. Meetings will be held at CSD on Craig Road from 1:00 until 3:00. Please invite colleagues to join our organization. ETA membership dues for the current year are only $15.00. See what we have planned.

 

Meeting Notes - September 26, 2006

 

The Educational Technology Association (ETA) meeting was held at CSD on September 26, 2006.

 

  • Attendees were: Valerie Whitney, Cindy Marston, Roger Bower, Karen Montgomery, Bill Giddings, Yvonne Morris, Pat Byington, Marie Haupt, Nancy Meyers, Vince Szewczyk, Mike Kratzer, Cindy Kicielinski ,Traci Jansen, Katie Harrison, Ron Spicer, Martha Bogart and Stephanie Madlinger.

 

  • The meeting began with the introduction of officers for the year: Valerie Whitney and Denise Stouffer- Co-Presidents, Vince Szewczyk-Treasurer, Pat Byington- Secretary and Jason Hudnall-Webmaster . The President-Elect position still needs to be filled. Some attendees were new to the organization so all attendees introduced themselves.

 

  • Dues this year are $15 for ETA. According to Ron Spicer, METPA fees are waived this year only. Checks for dues should be payable to ETA.

 

  • The new website URL for ETA is http://www2.csd.org/eta/. A request was made to add a link to the ETA website from the CSD website. Meetings for ETA are posted on the website and will be held at CSD.

 

  • Martha Bogart announced CSD updates. To avoid staff attending numerous meetings, CSD will send a representative to each job-alike organizations. Stephanie Madlinger will be the CSD liaison for ETA. The Technology Leadership Academy will be held again this year and is revamped- meeting will be one day per month through the year. The METC conference will be held on February 26, 27, and 28 and presentations are still needed for the ITNA and D3M strands. All schools have now migrated to IP for videoconferencing. Martha announced that TeleClass brochures are now available. Martha also distributed information about a special event showcasing student presentations sponsored by the Show-Me TechKnowledge Committee. Martha also compared the membership list and added these members to the ETA listserv.

 

  • Ron Spicer attended the METPA meeting in Columbia and gave an update. The organization is focusing on membership and communication this year. As a result, METPA membership for ETA members is free this year. METPA meetings scheduled this year are October 22 at Tan-Tar-A, November 28 at Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia, January 17 at MoreNET and March 29 at the MoreNET conference.

 

  • Bill Giddings gave an update for MoreNET and the budget requested this year. The budget is partway through the approval process and more information will be available in October. MoreNEt has requested money for additional circuits, internet access to increase access in Kansas City and St. Louis and money to upgrade the backbone.

 

  • Topics shared among members for future discussion and meetings were:

-MSIP and the depth of knowledge levels

-MSIP using Bernajean Porter’s Grappling with Technology Levels and Marzano’s Ten Strategies for Learning.

-Loti Levels of Technology by Chris Moersch and Loti Connections.com

LotiLounge.com available to Missouri school districts. User name is Missouri and password is Missouri.

Possibility of inviting Bernajean and Chris to meet for an after- METC conference discussion with ETA.

 

  • Karen Montgomery offered to develop a Wiki for ETA online discussions.

 

  • Valerie requested all members complete a survey to help officers schedule meeting topics that would be of interest to members.

 

  • The meeting was adjourned.

Wednesday Oct. 18, 2006: Assessing student’s technological literacy skills. Please inquire within your district as to how tech literacy is assessed and/or invite a colleague from your district who can address this. Bring samples of assessments your district uses

 

Meeting Notes - October 18, 2006

 

  • Attendees: Valerie Whitney, Denise Stouffer, Roger Bower, Yvonne Morris, Will Blaylock, Pat Byington, Ruth Block, Jason Hudnall, Marie Haupt, Stephanie Madlinger and Eric Nicklaus via videoconferencing.

 

  • CSD Housekeeping- please keep cell phone use down in the hallways which can be disruptive to those working in offices.

 

  • Denise reminded attendees about dues- $15 payable to Education Technology Association.

 

  • A president- elect is still needed. Anyone interested in serving should contact Denise Stouffer or Valerie Whitney.

 

Announcements/Sharing

 

 

  • Jason was having some problems uploading ETA information to the website. He would like to use php to add some additional information and features including calendars and surveys. Denise thanked Jason for developing and updating the website for ETA.

 

  • Ruth described the instructional features of Moodle, including blogs they have used in the Technology Leadership Academy. METC brochures will be available next week. Ruth announced the possibility of having three administrators to work with Michael Schmoker for assessing core curriculum standards and technology.

 

*A meeting for assessing eighth grade standards in technology will be held in Jefferson City on October 30. Two members, Ruth and Martha will attend and report back to ETA at the next meeting. The meeting was by DESE invitation. Parkway and Pattonville will be attending from the St. Louis area. Denise will ask Marilyn Terry to also discuss the results at a future ETA meeting. Marie asked if DESE would allow others to request com attend.

 

  • Some technology members of the larger districts in St. Louis and Kansas City met in Columbia to discuss technology.

 

  • Technology Literacy Levels discussion.

 

  • Online assessment for learning on DESE website.
